Module 2
Voki
|
I like the use of Voki as introductions and introducing new material. It is a fun way to change things up in the classroom. The avatars can drop in occasionally to tell students what is coming up, give students hints to help them, or encourage them before a test or quiz..
Students can also create Voki's to introduce themselves to the class. This would be great for students who are shy or don't like to get up in front of the class. Voki's can also be used for quick assessments or a fun way for students to ask questions. I like to do "temperature gauges" in my class from time to time. I do this to see how students are doing and to get a gauge on what students like and don't like about the class. This would be a great way to do these. It would also be more entertaining to watch these videos than read what students wrote. |
WELCOME SIGN
I like the idea of having a welcome sign hanging up outside my door. I always introduce myself to students at the beginning of the year, but they get introduced to seven new teachers sometimes. They rarely ever remember my short introduction.. It would also be nice for new students to see when they come into my class. I don't always get time to introduce myself to them.
Welcome signs would be a creative way for students to introduce themselves to the class. This would allow for students to learn how to use a new presentation tool and have fun introducing themselves. This is a way for teachers to get to know their students a little more personally than with just an interest inventory. |
Module 3
Haiku Deck
Mathematics of Finance - Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires
Haiku Deck is a great way to build a short review for students. This allows them to quickly see all of the important information that was covered. This could also be used at the beginning of a chapter to show students the important concepts that will be covered. I like the simplicity of Haiku Deck. It is easy to use and isn't overwhelming.
Students can also use Haiku Deck in order to create a quick summary of the important topics covered. They can also create short slide shows to show what they know on a particular topic. I like using Haiku Deck for students because it is easy to use and their are only a few layout options. This is good for a lot of students who let the many layout options overwhelm them.

Module 4
Symbaloo
5 Classroom Uses
1) I could have students create a Symbaloo for each chapter we work on. After every lesson, I could give them time to find helpful resource they could use in case they don't understand how to do the homework. This could include online videos, websites with step-by-step instructions, worksheets/extra practice, or etc.
2) I can use Symbaloo to design interactive units. Students would have links to videos, resources and homework assignments
3) I could build remediation resources for students who need extra support and resources. This could include extra videos, websites, and other online resources.
4) I could use Symbaloo to build a list of resources I use throughout the year for my classes. This way students would have access to every online resource we use throughout the year.
5) I could have students create their own lessons over a chapter. Students could get in groups and create a lesson for the entire class. Then students would work through each Symbaloo to complete the chapter.

Symbaloo I found for Quadratic Functions
Google Bookmarks
3 Uses for Google Bookmarks
1) I use bookmarks to save websites I use often in my classroom. This way I can quickly navigate to them and do not have to continue to remember the name or address of the resources I am looking want to use.
2) I could set-up a folder for my class and share helpful sites easily with my classes. This would be really helpful when we go to a new website. Students wouldn't have to worry about typing in the address, since I could quickly share it with them.
3) I could set-up a folder for my department at school. Then I could easily share out all of the new websites I come across with them quickly. This would be easier than sending them links and keep all of the links shared in one place.

SAMR Resources
How has/will the SAMR Model change how you do or will teach technology?
SAMR is a lot like blooms taxonomy. It has made me think about why and how I am using technology in my classroom. This model challenges me to continue to make higher level assignments using technology to engage my students. Simply replacing a task done in a classroom with the same task on technology is not enough. Although it is ok to do this from time to time, as teachers we need to be continually thinking about how to take that assignment to to the next level. This is how we truly engage students and make the learning more meaningful.
Will you share this SAMR Model with other teachers, colleagues, administrators? Why or why not?
I will share this model because I think it is important for teachers to understand SAMR just like blooms taxonomy. I would bet that a lot of teachers have never even heard of SAMR. Some teachers are already hitting different levels and don't even know it. I think it is important as a staff that everyone knows about SAMR and continually tries to strive for engaging our students at the highest level possible. This doesn't mean that we need to be at redefinition all of the time, but when the assignment is appropriate we should try to achieve it.
